in dialogue with ZOE LEONARD
The third exhibition in the series "in dialogue with" shows new works by Berlin-based artist Andrea Pichl with a photograph by Zoe Leonard.
Andrea Pichl presents three of her latest variable tower sculptures, based on the floor plans of apartment compounds in three very different cities and social spaces; the high-rise blocks of Halle-Neustadt (built in the former eastern part of Germany), the high-rise towers of Co-op City in the Bronx (New York), and the satellite town near Dublin airport called Ballymun. The sculptures are accompanied by image projections and prints from Pichl's documentary archive of cityscapes, along with two significant series of raster-like drawings in pencil.
House by Zoe Leonard accompanies Pichl's project. Both artists offer archeological takes on ways of living, each dealing reflexively with the documentary genre: Pichl through the mode of display, Leonard through reflecting on photography's history and implication in a valuing system of signification.
