in dialogue with MARINA ABRAMOVIC
Mathilde ter Heijne alongside a work by Marina Abramovic presents a collection of conceptual works from her recent archive.
Both artists examine power relations and the roles we play in society while trying to overcome such inequalities. They tackle injustice and go with their art to where it hurts. A focus on the aspect of "pain" and its emanicipatory state becomes the driving force behind the conceptual issues they share in their work.
Both advocate for the personal, asserting intimate experiences into the production of history, in which Marina Abramovic performs mostly with own body to unsettle acceptable behaviour, while Mathilde ter Heijne searches for the basis to the formation of social structures and recall different forms of gender politics and their varied histories of power relations.
